How to think like Leonardo Da Vinci
Been into reading some books recently and came across this book How to think like Leonardo Da Vinci. Suddenly, he became my idol apart from Jesus. This person is so impressive. He is ambidextrous meaning able to use both hands equally well. He also utilised both sides of his brains making him one of the greatest artists, architect, anatomist and scientist of all times. Being called a genius, he had intense curiousity and would always find nature and things around him interesting. He was a seeker in truth and beauty. One thing interesting was that he has no passion for women. One might have thought that such a genius would most likely be weak and frail but on the contary, he was very strong with strength enough to bend a horseshoe with just his bare hands. He was also a person with such poise, grace and fitness that he was known for his great physical beauty and more infnite grace in every action. People would hide to see him walk out of his house just because of his poise and grace just by walking.
Other than teaching some techniques for creativity and whole brain usage, the book gave some exercises of drawing.
The flower below is drawn using my left hand which is also my non dominant hand. Whereas the first portrait is drawn using my right hand (dominant hand) and the second portrait drawn using my left hand. The exercise was done as that I just copy the image of the portrait upside down and then turning it to see the image that I had done. This is just to proof that anyone can draw. It also trains us to have new ways of seeing. As Leonardo said that "People look without seeing" and therefore want us to draw by looking at things as if you have never seen them before rather than relying on recognition and obectification. We are to see qualities of a subject in a more elemental way as shapes, hues and textures.
